Did you know that January and February can be great months to buy a home? Real estate data firm RealtyTrac studied home selling patterns nationwide and found that buyers often get great deals during these two months. Why? Less competition from other home buyers and more motivated sellers are the norm during winter, according to RealtyTrac. Another bonus this year: Mortgage rates remain near historic lows, stretching your home-buying dollars.
The spring home-buying season typically begins in early March. By that time, more sellers are starting to list their properties and the number of buyers starts to climb, with home-sale activity typically peaking in June. Many people with children do not want to move during the school year and prefer to wrap up a home purchase and be moving in by July.
